Taz 2yrs old and actually readingDescriptionAfter using the Your Baby Can Read! educational DVDs my daughter learnt how to read and started reading at about 10months. At 19months she was reading over 100 words out load. At 2 1/2 she was reading NEW words by herself. Comments
Hi again.. just wondering.. was Taz able to read in Capitals? My 2 year old can read very well, some of the books she reads are for 3rd graders but she can only read words in lower case letters.. For example she can read Giraffe or giraffe, but she cant read the word GIRAFFE.. this is a bit of a concern for me.. not really sure what to do.

Hi Raoul,
Thanks for replying. You must be very proud of Taz's achievements. Please keep me updated on your little girls progress as i think it could really help us with our daughter. I wanted to give her a head start in life and it seems this program has given her that.. But i also want her to be able to make friends and be happy. Thats the main thing.. I hope that even though she'll be a little smarter than the other kids her age that she would still be able to make good friends and be a happy little girl...We've started looking for suitable pre-schools and we're hoping to start her at one of them when she turns 3. We will let the teachers know of her ability to read/count etc so that hopefully they will be able to help her in a way that is appropriate to her needs...

andwil,
Thanks for the post. Your concern is not an uncommon one. In NSW at least teachers and schools are supposed to teach to the individual childs needs. However we were still a little concerned about this when our daughter started school but we made it clear to the teacher and the school that Taz was able to read and count very well. We may have been a little lucky in that the school has a very good reputation and Taz's Kindergarten teacher was fantastic. One of the easiest things that you can do is send your daughter to school with books. When she has done her class work she can read. We did enrol our daughter into an international Maths programme called Kumon. This was to ensure that she was getting the extension that she needed. She is now 8 yrs old and is being awarded with a Kumon A.S.H.R 2Yrs Ahead. This is equivalent to 3 years ahead of the school grade. She is already doing high school maths. Last year and this year Taz was in advanced/gifted classes at school. This year she has struggled a little at school and it may in part be down to getting bored and in part because her parents have very poor time management skills and do not have the best routines for her at home. However I am only guessing here. One thing that I have noticed with Taz is that she thinks and talks very quickly. Some times too quickly even for herself. I think because of this she can be easily distracted and will be thinking of 2,3 or 4 things at once. Maybe sometimes she is not concentrating as what she is supposed to be doing is too easy. With the maths programme above she has to do a work booklet everyday and she has to time it. She will sometimes take 45mins to an hour, which is way too long. We started getting spare sheets so that I can race her. When we are racing she can do it in less then 20 mins. She has always finished before me and the last time she finished 4 mins before me and I had 3 errors and she had 2. And maths was my best subject at school! However we appear to be overcoming the distractions at school. We have offered her an expensive incentive for the end of the year and everyday her teacher ticks of her behaviour, attention and completion in class. So far this has made a dramatic change to her in class performance. Unfortunately we have not had a lot of feedback from kids who have got to school. I know a few of our customers who have children of a similar age who were all excelling. Regards Raoul

Hi,
I wonder if this little girls parent can reply to this message. My daughter started using YBCR when she turned 1. By 15 months she was reading all the words in the YBCR DVD's and by 18 months she was reading all the words in the YBCR and YCCR DVD's. She is now 2 years old and reads as well as this little girl in the video. I get books from the library that say 'Level 1, 2, 3' all of which she can read with ease. I am however very concerned with 1 fact. Im so worried about whats going to happen when she has to start school at 4 or 5 years of age. She will obviously be ahead of her peers and therefore im worried that she is going to be bored and therefore act out. How did this little girl Taz cope with school? Did her parents have to enrol her in some sort of gifted program, if so where do you find information about such programs.. please help. Many Thanks.
