When can my child start watching the Your Baby Can Read programme?

Your Baby Can Read is recommended for children from 3 months of age to 5 years. Specifically when a baby has got Visual Tracking (the ability to follow a moving object), then they are old enough to start watching Your Baby Can Read.

We recommend that you start using the Your Baby Can Read as soon as possible as the earlier you start the easier it will be for your child and the more benefit they are likely to have.

When will my child start reading?

Every child is different and every household is different, so the short answer is we don't know when your child will start reading. However with children who start using Your Baby Can Read from 3 months of age it is common to see them starting to respond to written words at about 9-12 months, and to be reading word combinations out loud at about 18-24 months. Older children quite often start responding very quickly, within weeks, as they already have vocal skills, motor skills and already have some receptive and expressive language skills.

If you visit our videos pages or search for 'your baby can read' on YouTube.com you will see hundreds of videos of babies starting to read from as young as 9 months after having used Your Baby Can Read.

How long will my child use the Your Baby Can Read programme?

Again every child is different however based on our experience a 3 month old will probably enjoy and still be learning from the Your Baby Can Read programme until they are about 2.5- 3yrs old. We would expect that older children would progress through the series at least 2-3 times which would equate to about 10-15months of use. After this the children can move onto Your Child Can Read.

How long are the Your Baby Can Read DVDs?

The Your Baby Can Read DVDs go for approximately 30 mins each. The first one is a little shorter (for children who are just starting) and the last DVD is a bit longer.

How often should we use the Your Baby Can Read programme?

The recommended schedule is to have your child watch 1 DVD twice a day. If you can add to this and use a selection of the printed material for 15 - 30mins a day we are confident that you will be amazed at the results.

The most important thing is that you and your child should enjoy the activities. If either of you is not in the mood or has had enough for the day then you should take a break. Your child will learn best when he is enjoing himself and this will set a great attitude for the future that learning is fun. The last thing you want is a child that equates learning and education to being a chore.

How does Your Baby Can Read work?

Your Baby Can Read uses multi-sensory, interactive teaching techniques to teach babies how to read as easily and naturally as they learn to talk.

Children learn to talk naturally and easily because we speak to them and we speak around them from the day they are born. By this exposure to the spoken language they learn to talk without ever being taught, with just the occasional correction. Children can also learn to read in the same way, by exposing them to the written language in a natural and fun way from an early age.

I am sure everyone knows a couple of 3 year olds that know the words to a McDonald's Ad, or the theme song to their favourite TV show, a few swear words and the exact context and inclination with which to use them. That is because that is what they have been exposed to. If we expose them to poor quality experiences they will learn poor quality outputs, if they have good quality stimulation they will have good quality outputs. If we expose them to written language they will learn to read just as easily. But if they are not exposed to written language then they cannot learn it!

Does Your Baby Can Read use Phonics or the Whole Word method?

Your Baby Can Read use Phonics and Whole Word methods. However it primarily uses the Whole Word or Natural Language approach to teaching children to read. See above FAQ.

"Arocdnicg to rsceearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer are in the rghit pcale. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit pobelrm. Tihs is buseace the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

As this jumble above illustrates when we read we do not actually read individual letters but whole words.

My child has a developmental delay, will he still benefit from Your Baby Can Read?

There are many examples of children with conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism and others that have used Your Baby Can Read and have achieved amazing results. Check our Testimonials to find several examples, including 1 video.

I have heard research that indicates that reading ability may be influenced by genetics is this so?

I have also heard of some research that concluded that reading ability is influenced by genetics. My understanding of the research is that it showed Smart Adults had Smart Children and so concluded that genetics was involved.

My personal opinion (not necessarily that of Dr Titzer's or Your Baby Can LLC) is that this is a very poor conclusion. Smart parents are more likely to have smart children mostly due to environmental factors.

1. Smart (educated) parents are more likely to read at home and have books at home (sets an example)
2. Smart (educated) parents are likely to have higher incomes
3. Smart (educated) parents are likely to value education more
4. Due to higher incomes, Smart (educated) parents
are more likely to have a stay at home parent
5. Due to higher incomes, Smart (educated) parents are more likely to send children to better schools and use tutors

I live in the USA, UK, etc can I still order from Your Baby Can Read Australia?

Yes. We are exclusive distributors for Australia and New Zealand only but we are currently shipping to Europe, North & South America and some parts of Asia.

My child accidently broke or scratched a DVD can we buy a replacement?

Of course you can. However we go one step further. If you bought your DVDs from us and any disk is broken or damaged for any reason, at any time, return it to us and we will replace it for just $15.00 including delivery. This is about half the price of buying a new DVD.

I bought some Your Baby Can Read products from XXXX and they contain spelling mistakes and other faults. Can you help me?

Unfortunately the are some disreputable people selling counterfeit products. Many of these counterfeit products are obviously counterfeit and substandard. In general if you see these product being sold for far less then the RRP then we would advise caution. Some of the issues that we have seen are:

1. Spelling errors
2. Lift-the-Flap books without flaps
3. Poor quality printing
4. Poor quality binding, etc

If you have been tricked into buying one of these products and are trying to recover your money, you can return the Counterfeit products to us and we can give written testimony of them being counterfeit. This is often required by your bank or payment processor if you want to recover money. The counterfeit products will not be returned but will be destroyed.

We can not replace counterfeit product that has been bought elsewhere.
